To the New Year, to 2008

My guy got me this legging a while back and I have been putting off wearing them. Not that I care what onlookers think of how I dress but I did not want strangers to stare. I think people, well at least I am, are used to seeing opaque tights on girls but spandex leggings? I don’t think so. Since we are ringing in the New Year, I thought today would be a perfect day to wear them. Well. Perfect day because I thought people would be too engross with their New Year celebration, that they would not even notice. Oh I was dead wrong. My brother said they were too shiny and this teenage guy passed by and exclaimed, "Catwoman!" And but of course there were the stares and giggles and whatever not. But then, it’s not like everyday I get to be called Catwoman right? And for the record, Halle Berry was really hot in that movie.

By night time, I had the scarf around my neck. Blame the heavy dinner.
And eventually, we headed home an hour before midnight. The crowd was madness.

Maroon oxfords

The last time I visited this store, the salesgirl promised to call me once the new batch of Oxfords came. She said they would be in, on the first week of December. So the first week of December passed but still no call from her. I went to the store many a times but there were no sign of the Oxfords or the salesgirl. Lucky her. And just when I gave up hope, I came across this shoe.

Shopping

Why is it that when I have extra cash to spare, I don’t seem to find anything to my liking? And when I am way low on cash, almost anything seems to be a must buy. Oh well. If there are others who experience this too, then I am not crazy. Hah. Anyway, I visited my cousins over in Malaysia on the 25th and but of course, we went shopping. We practically toured the whole mall. Here’s the best part. Guess what I came home with? A white basic V-neck tee and a black lace skirt. Wow. Shopping has never been this unrewarding before.

Green wedges

The multicoloured checks on the blouse, the bag's leopard prints and the green patent wedges. I could have gone all matchy-matchy and wore the blue and gold heels instead. But no. Today I felt like wearing them green shoes. Kermit the frog anybody?

Excuse the face. I went groceries shopping and I did not like the plastic bags where my purchases were stuffed in. So I threw them all in my bag and I got a nice heavy load on my shoulder. Oh what a pain carrying it was. I really need to remember to bring my reusable grocery bag next time. Save the plastic bags. Save the world. Hmm. Watched way too much Heroes.

Bad hair days

*
The weather here is really getting on my nerves. The scorching sun would be here today, but come tomorrow, it will be gone. Tomorrow the rain will come pouring down instead. With the scorching sun, and at times, an unexpected downpour, it’s no wonder why my hair has gotten all frizzy, messy and unruly these days. Oh. But thank whoever who invented scarves. At least my hair appeared tamed. Come to think about it, now I really need to invest in some nice headgears. There are plenty to choose from – fedora, beret, newsboy cap, bowling hat, top hat, etc. The search is going to be fun.

Shirt and skinnies

Finding an ideal pair of high-waist, wide-legged jeans proved to be more difficult than I have ever imagined. Those that I have tried on have a ridiculous fit. Either the design and fit are to blame, or I am just not meant to wear them. But I am not going to give up hope. My mum always say, “when you come looking, you wouldn’t find it. But the moment you stop, you will”. Each time I have in mind what to wear; I can’t seem to find that piece of clothing. But that piece will come popping out of nowhere when I no longer felt like wearing it. Weird isn’t it? So maybe I should stop looking for awhile. For now, I could just ogle at them fashion bloggers who have donned them perfectly and of course, Rachel Bilson. I adore how she wears her jeans. She never fails to look chic in them wide-legged jeans. And as for me, I will be sticking to them skinny jeans. For now at least.

Head got chopped off and legs too. Solution? Bend down in an awkward position, so the whole outfit could be seen. Better shots next time.

Sexy in heels

It has been long since I wore heels. So today when I wore them, I nearly fell when climbing down the staircase. Maybe I forgot how to walk in them. Or maybe I am just plain clumsy. I am definitely leaning towards the latter. Oh. And today, I felt extremely happy strutting in my heels. Not that it was a new pair of heels, but I think it was the feeling from not wearing heels for a long time. It is really funny how different footwear can affect how I feel. All this while I have been wearing flats and I feel like a kid in them. Well, not that it was entirely a bad thing. Anyway today, donning a pair of heels made me feel older, well, my age at least. I walked past some girls and I was taller than them. And that rarely happens, considering my petite ness. Oh. Did I mention that wearing heels made me feel confident? The art of wearing heels sure is amusing.

Volume skirts

Today’s weather was extremely cold. Well, extremely cold for me but most definitely a not for those of you who have experienced winter. If I ever experience winter, I think I need ten layers of clothing. Hah. On another note, I need to be more organized. I keep purchasing things but I need to remember that I lack storage. It really is frustrating when you cannot seem to find what you want.

Black layers and Velcro

I decided to take the new shoe out today. Do I feel like a kid in them? The heck I do. What with the bangs and all. My mum said I could pass off as a 12 years old. Okay mum. 12 years old is way too off and young. My guy just had to rub it further and said he felt as if he's dating a little girl. Reality check. I am small but I ain't little. Should he have said that he felt as if he was the parent and I am the child, I would have kicked him in his nuts. Hah. Just kidding.

Bangs and fringe.

*
After much contemplation, I finally trimmed my hair and have them bangs. I waited a long time to get them and now that I have it, I need to get used to it. The first time I wished I had bangs was when I saw them adorable pictures of Suri Cruise. She is such a doll, ain't she? I too love seeing them bangs on Susie from Style Bubble, Jello on Springs and recently, Cath from AsianCajuns rock them. Ultimately, I got them bangs after seeing pictures of Katie Holmes at the recent Bambi Awards. I like them bangs on her. A lot.

When I first saw this shoe from afar, I was flabbergasted at how filthy it was. I was even more disgusted at the shop owner for wanting to sell them off, considering how dirty they looked. But when I passed by it, I realised that it was far from dirty. The presumed "dirty" was actually the shoe's black, silver and gold glitters' effect. Oh. And instead of buckles, it had velcros on it. The last time I had velcros on my shoe was when I was in preschool. That sure was a long time ago.

The mother and daughter pair that made me have them bangs.

This boots are made for walking

Excuse the title. But this pair of boots really made me feel like dancing. Maybe it's the excitement I get from finally owning a pair of this footwear. Here where I live, we get limitless sunshine. Naturally, donning a pair of boots would get you stares and raised eyebrows from passer-bys. Scrap the attention part. That was not the reason why I wore them boots. Anyway, back to the weather. As of late, it has been raining and the weather gets really chilly. But of course I took this as an opportunity for me to wear them boots. Now I am impatiently waiting the call from the sales assistant. She has the boots that I want. I can't wait to finally have them in my hands. Waiting is such a pain. Sometimes.

Bow

I believe it was last week when I saw a girl with a bow on her hair. I really like how the bow emphasized her insanely big curly mane, and straight blunt bangs. And so I have mentioned before that I hated the dress below when I first saw it. But I got them anyway. Well if that girl had a bow on her hair, I had mine on my dress. Alright. So I admit that the chances of me wearing a bow on my hair are pretty slim to none. But then again, never say never right?

Back to basics

I finally did some shopping for basics. All of them are white tees which I bought two to three sizes bigger. That because I wanted longer tees rather than the short ones that end at the hips. The one I have on below is actually a men's basic. I got my guy to purchase them as I wasn't sure if they would be comfortable. They came in a pack of three so I took one and the rest were his. Now I might consider buying more of them because they are really light and comfy.

We went across the border again and I had to purchase this patent heels. Them heels aren't like the normal all black patent. This has a nice batik detailing.

On our last visit, I regretted not buying this particular pair of tan boots. So this time round, I had every intention to purchase them. I guess I'm not meant to own them for they did not have a nice fit. So I ended up buying this brown one instead. And trust me. They are priced damn low.
*

The first dress reminds me of the colour-block dresses I see soo often on the racks of Mango stores. But this dress is a little different, material and pattern wise. I did not like the second dress when I first saw them. Ironically, I got them anyway and after trying them out at home, I love them. Them wide collars are wicked.

My mum said that these shades were too huge for my face.
But I like them anyway, mum.

Fog

Black won again today. And I thought yesterday's turquoise outfit would save me from the extreme monochrome avalanche. The thing is, I am suddenly fond of black. I am donned in black these days and my purchases are black as well. Anyway, I got myself a studded black bracelet. I wore it for this outfit shot but the downpour fogged my camera and in turn, my picture came out blurred.

Breeks and chilly weather

*
I had planned to have a sumptuous dinner and I did. While deciding what to wear, I bear in mind that I needed a top that does not accentuate my food bump; the aftermath of me gorging way too much food than my stomach can handle. Anyway, I decided on wearing the jersey dress. No belts around the waist, absolutely nothing could restrict me from devouring my huge meal. Perfect.

Linger

It has been such a long time since I posted. Or has it really? Anyway, life is pretty hectic now. Them dull days have caused me to be dressed in blacks all the time. I am not complaining. In fact, I do love black. Oh yeah. Despite everything, I still managed to shop. Not much. But enough to perk me up a little. Man do I need a holiday. Somewhere out of this country maybe?

Knitted vest

My mum handed down her knitted vest to me many months ago but only today did I decided to take them out. On the first try, I button up all the way and goodness, them vest made me look unbearably stunted. Then I try letting it loose but it looked as if I was wearing a gunny sack. My last resort was to belt them and that was how I wore it out. To top the outfit, I wore my new high heels, which is by far the highest heel I have ever owned. And oh I wore out my new pair of Cheap Monday which is a size smaller than the first pair.

Just dinner

I went out late today so I didn't get to do much. I went for dinner outside and after some walking around at the mall, I headed home. I was pretty upset for I did not get to purchase the Bonia wedges. They only had the display set left and they were too small for my feet. I got even more frustrated when I learnt that the sale ends tomorrow. And so my plan to go to another Bonia outlet for that wedges is just not going to happen.

Grey

It was hot outside but I've been yearning to wear my grey tights. So I did just that and I didn't stop there. I wore two layers of tops and brought along my leopard printed cardigan. Eventually, they all came in handy for when night came, the weather was chilly. I could feel the gentle breeze and if I just close my eyes, I could fall asleep. Right there on the grass patch.

Green goblin

I looked in my wardrobe today and realised that I desperately need new basics. Them plain white, black, grey tops, black leggings and so on. Sometimes when I'm in the mall, I do remember that I need to buy them. However, there always will be something else that catches my eyes and made me forgot completely about them basics. Like today.

Initially I went to the shop to get a metallic slipper but I bought these two instead. I've been admiring them for so long and there was once I asked the salesgirl for a new pair but she said there wasn't any left. Today I got lucky for they had stocks. At first, I had wanted to get the red ones only but I ended up buying both for I can't decide which I like better. You will be suprise at how much they cost. They were marked down extremely low.

Sheer

Normally I would cringe at the idea of repeating the same clothes and wearing it the same way I did before. But it's all different for this skirt. It's flowy and not restricting. The skirt is actually meant to be worn on the hips but I've come to love it better when it rest on my waist. To do that, I had to fold the skirt; as you see on the pictures below.

The reliable Facehunter

I felt like wearing my tartan shirt that I bought last week but I can't quite decide how to wear it. Then I browsed through Facehunter and Eureka! I came up with the outfit below. I rolled the three quarter sleeves of the tartan shirt for I prefer my outfits to be messy than to be too in order. Another reason was because I can't seem to button them sleeves. This is yet another clothing to add to my long list of "clothes that needs alteration". Oh brother.

I got myself another gladiator but in the form of wedges! At $5, and being the last piece, I just had to grab it. Another excuse I gave myself for purchasing this was that I don't own any green-coloured footwear.

I was inspired by this picture on Facehunter.

Black on black

Them Cheap Mondays are indeed a very very comfortable pair of jeans. The only setback I faced was that they are slightly loose around the waist area. Anyway, my guy said I looked drunk (what?!) in some of the outfit shots. I was loosing my balance as them heels kept getting stuck in the soft ground. He can't stop teasing for I think in his eyes, I looked like a mad circus performer, trying so hard to not fall. Well that explains the wide smile I have below.

Tremors

I was in the library when suddenly the bookshelf that I was leaning on started to vibrate. My first reaction was to look at the other end of the bookshelf to see if some kids were playing near it. Since there were none, my second reaction was to touch the steel bookshelf but it did not vibrate. Only when I lean against it again, I could feel the vibration. And then a thought struck me which nearly made me peed in my pants. If anyone of you have ever watched the local horror movie, The Maid, you would rememeber the part where the ghost sat on top of the wardrobe, legs dangling, hitting against the doors of the cupboard. So I slowly look up but of course there was nothing. Later when I got home my mum asked if I felt the tremors and I went, "YES YES YES!". She said Indonesia had an earthquake... I pray for their safety.

Nyonya Kebaya

I was looking through FaceHunter and I saw this lady's outfit which I found plainly mesmerising. This lady had on a modernised version of the Nyonya Kebaya. It has black sequins all over and of course, the traditional embroidery. This just reminds me that I have yet to wear mine! I first saw a picture of Nicole Richie wearing it sometime around April last year. That was a long time ago and now, seeing this picture reminds me that I have to give this a try. Furthermore, as there will be loads of stores selling this Nyonya Kebaya now, I'll keep a lookout for a black one.

Cheap Monday

After seeing these metallic coloured pumps from
Mrs Chocolate's posts, and seeing Susie from StyleBubble wore a similar kind, I knew I wanted one as well. They are soo gorgeous that I can't keep this eyes of mine off my computer screen. Maybe I am exaggerating a little but they really are a must buy for me. So today, we walked around town scouring for them but none of the shoe stores had them. I was utterly disappointed for I really want a pair in either purple, pink, yellow, red or silver. Them shoe shops just can't stop stocking patent pumps. Though I like patent, they are just not what I want. I finally called it quits for today and was walking around aimlessly in the mall when I was drawn to something. I picked it up, looked at it, saw the button and gasped. It was a pair of Cheap Monday black skinny jeans in my size! I was greedy and tried finding another pair in a different wash but could find none. Anyway I purchased it and went home to check the Cheap Monday website. The jeans I got is a "Tight 45min Stonewash Black". I have been admiring them people on the streetstyle blogs wearing it but could not get my hands on it for they don't distribute to Singapore. So as for now, I am thrilled but come tomorrow, I will start fussing about them coloured pumps.

p/s: I know this may sound cheesy but I got this pair of Cheap Monday on a Monday evening and yes, I got it cheap!

Pencil skirt no more

There are plenty of pencil skirts in my wardrobe waiting to be worn out. While they are lovely, many do not have a nice fit. They are either too big or too wide. Didn't I mention before that I don't sew? Anyway, while the tailor is my solution, I have way too many clothes to send for altering and that itself will burn a huge hole in my pocket. So the next best thing? Remix them clothes myself; using pins and brooches, temporarily of course.

Fashion Week

I found myself staring at my wardrobe and thinking, "I've got nothing to wear!". Nothing seemed to please my eyes and just about every clothes felt wrong. Immediately I scan through the many fashion blogs and Eureka! Fashion blogger SICK came to my rescue. Her latest post, "I'm afraid of happiness." inspired my outfit today.

I normally wear this dress just the way it is, three quarter long. However today, I wanted something different and so I folded the dress to create layers of flaps.

I was inspired by these two pictures. Both runway looks are from Sari Gueron Fall 2007 Collection.
