Tartan or plaid

Tell me. How do I know if this shirt dress is tartan or plaid? I've read so many and seen much more pictures about the differences between them two but I still can't quite make out which is which. Anyhow, wearing slipper today was a bad choice because my leg froze (think frozen meat) after sitting for an hour plus in the train.

Bencoolen

We spent today walking around in the chilly weather. I think I've mentioned it way too many times before, but I'm going to mention it again. It rained. It's raining everyday now. We forgot to take an outfit shot so I guess this will do. On a lighter note, I found a really nice skirt which has stamp printings on it. I didn't get it though as I'm waiting for the price to be marked down. Anyway, we forgot to take an outfit shot so I guess this will do. The pictures were taken after a heavy dinner at a Turkish Cafe.

School

Today was my first day at uni. Considering that I have to travel for 2 hours from East to West, I wanted to be comfortable. So I chose this cotton plaid dress.

I got my mum to take the pictures right after I got home.

High waisted

Originally I wore my black tee that had a huge picture of a nail and the letter "U" (screw you) emboss on the front. But I changed as I my brother said the logo was too attention grabbing. Blah. So I went with this one instead. We went to snap pictures of the thrift stores and went to our usual haunts. I got 11 pairs of clothing :D My favourite among them was this white spaghetti summer dress and checkered high-waisted pencil skirt.

The narrow street of Haji Lane.

House of Japan

Jap Vintage

Barong is a first hand shop though. I acidentally set the mode to slow synchro.

I'm Wuyagege. We didn't enter the shop but I read in a local magazine that it does sell vintage clothings. I peek from the outside and their clothes were neatly displayed. Very much like what you see in the mall.

I got this shades from Barong. I was contemplating between pink and blue but 99% of the time, I can't pull of the colour pink.

Thrift

Who would have thought that Haji Lane is the narrow street that I passed by often. How could I have missed it since I always go Arab Street? Easy. It was soo narrow that two cars can barely fit in. One has to be exceptionally meticulous when driving there because it sure is a tight squeeze. Anyway, I didn't purchase anything there as the clothes in the thrift stores do not carry my size. There were lots of 1940's house dress that I adore but were way too big. I finally tried an acid wash denim skirt but they made my hips look huge. Here's my take on the stores there: -

- House of Japan has an amazing selection of secondhand denim tops and bottoms. Some of the brands they carry are Wrangler's, Levi's, Guess, Lee, etc. Apart from denim, they do have blouse, dress, you get my drift. The shop is man by an elderly Chinese uncle who spoke to me in Mandarin. I do understand him at first but when he started talking fast, I just went blur and replied, "I'll just look around" in Mandarin.

- Jap Vintage stores a whole lot of vintage Kimonos among other things. It was my first time seeing it and I have to say they are really pretty. I wonder if anyone would wear them on the streets. I'll keep a lookout. They too have a massive collection of plaid shirt dress and 1970's dress and suits. A Malay family runs the store and if I'm not mistaken, the girl at the counter said that the prices range from $25 to $65.

- Barong is a Bali -themed shop that houses beach wears. They were closed today but we managed to get in and browse through. If you're looking for a neon or bright coloured shades, this shop is for you. I'm guessing that the two Malay guys who let us in were the owners. I saw one of them on a variety show at Suria Channel, where Barong was featured.

(I didn't get to take pictures of the shop front as it was drizzling. Maybe on my next trip)

I actually wore my black patent pumps out but I think they got hungry because while crossing the street, I realised the mouth were wide open! No wonder my left foot felt airy. Needless to say as I scamper around finding a replacement, I got plenty of unwanted stares. I finally decided on the silver flip-flops which matches my tunic and were only $3.90. I brought my patent home hoping to get it repaired but the left pair too got torn! So my 4 years old patent when straight into the rubbish chute.

Black

All black was it today. Rainy days usually means slumber but today the weather is exceptionally chilly. I would rather have sunshine as I don't have a high threshold for frosty weather. It rained before I went out and when I was on the way home.
It's 11:05 PM now, and it's still pouring outside. Hopefully in the next few days, we will feel the heat again. I intend to go thrift shopping at Haji Lane tomorrow. Please Rain, just go away, for awhile at least.

Brass knuckles

Good Charlotte's "I got brass knuckles hanging from my neck and my chain" was so passe. We've seen it on people before right? How about on on heels?
Rihanna shows you how to. Wow. Just wow.

Sentosa

We got cheated by the weather. There were dark clouds in the sky, thunder and lightning to boot. So we rushed to the nearest shelter for cover and waited, and waited. But it didn't rain heavily, just drizzled. We ended up exploring the whole of Sentosa on bus trams and skytrain; and stopped by The Coffee Bean to sip Sunrise and munch on Blueberry muffin.

Elated

I was tapping my toes, pacing up and down, in front of Jean Yip's hair salon. I kept thinking in my head, "to cut or not to". I finally gave in to the former and said to the hairdresser "Victoria Beckham". He passed me magazines and I was flipping frantically, sourcing for a picture of her. I kept repeating "one side longer than the other" but the hairdresser said in broken English (he was a Malaysian), "Aiya. It's not actually shortla. Saya tahu ape you nak (in English; I know what you want)". The aftermath wasn't what I want for it's 80% similar to my bob haircut last september. Nonetheless, I was happy to not have to tie my hair again. I know... I'm easily satisfied right? Hair will grow and when it does, I'm bringing Mrs Beckham picture along.

Supermodels

According to Forbes Celebrity list, Gisele Bundchen is the highest paid supermodel last year. Wow! Kate Moss doesn't even come close. Who knows... maybe next year we will see Irina Lazareanu, Agyness Deyn and Chanel Iman on the list. Anything is possible.

More colours

So it rained heavily today. But even that did not deter my spirit to be dressed in colours. Here's the scoop - since I was in the CBD (Central Business District) area, I practically stood out among the crowd; like a banana alright. Them businessmen and women were dressed in their usual monochrome colours. When we were at the mall, I felt more at eased. I wasn't alone anymore. The mannequins too planned to brighten up the gloomy day :D And yes, the rain did stop.

Primary colours

I practically wasted the whole day watching cable while eating strawberries. When mum asked me out for dinner and some grocery shopping, I immediately dug up my wardrobe in search for my long forgotten coloured lycra tee. Blame the strawberries. They made me feel all colourful suddenly. Has that happened to you? I mean out of the blue something inspire you to dress in a certain way. Music perhaps? Anyway, what do you know, them tees were right at the back and were begging to be taken out. So blue was it today. I wonder what colour I would wear tomorrow. Yellow, purple, red, green, all at once? Wakaka.

Swimsuit

Summer time.
There are still many on the street wearing bold and flowery summer dresses. On the contrary, here I am already checking out Fall ads. Tsk. Well I can't say I do not love seeing colourful dresses, flip-flops, floppy straw hats, hot beach bod and what not, but erm, here in Singapore, its summer all year round. We don't have four seasons, although I wish we had autumn and winter. There aren't many colourful floweres and leaves here. Anyway, I came across Jessica Simpson's Swimsuit line. The one-pieces are nice but I especially like the blue bikini which has gold buttons on it. Here you go.

Flea at dawn

Chinatown was a letdown today. Many stalls were packing up, while the ones still open were selling collectors' toys and figurines (I adored their wide assortments of Transformers), but its not what I had in mind to buy. And to think we skipped lunch just so I could get my butt there before 6pm. So we had dinner before proceeding to the biggest flea market. It was dark, crowded, but happening nonetheless. We circled around for the lady who promised to bring down vest for me, but unfortunately she had none today. Oh well, the promise was made last week, my guess is she did bring it last week, but it was I who didn't went down.

DVDs and Vinco

After yesterday trip, we deserved a little relaxing recreation. And what better way to enjoy leisure time than to watch DVDs. We watched "Zodiac" (Chloe Sevigny, I like) while munching on our Chocolate Delight and Sky Berry doughnuts; which had hardened a little due to travelling. Ah. The joy of being a couch potato and wasting the day away.

Across the border

We went across the border, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, today. Counting today in, we've been there twice this month. Our last visit was primarily for the food while today was shopping galore. Many items were marked down, some as heavily as 70% off. All in support of the Malaysian Mega Sale; which ends around September if I'm not mistaken.

We had SEASON'S since we hadn't had it for a long time.
That soup is Tom Yam. While it looked unappealing, it was deliciously spicy; makes you scratch your head and reach for your drink. Pronto.

Mustafa

We've been to
Mustafa Centre many times; and each time I went, the place is cram with people, especially near the entrance on the 1st level. I knew I wanted to purchase some accessories so I headed up to the 2nd level staright. Suprisingly, after I made my purchase, I found the place to be rather clear. Clear of people that is. So we went back to the 1st floor to see what they had there. Boy were there many electronics! From now onwards, I vow to buy watches there as they were priced much more cheaper! I'm not a big watch person. I don't even own a pair of functioning watch. Blame it on handphones. Handphones do tell time too. Don't they?
I want the gold Casio databank. Have been wanting it since 12345678 ago.

Had lunch at Pelican Pizza. I love the Hawaiian. The Pepperoni ones were too salty.

Oh. I was wrong?

A year ago, my poly frens and I made our way to a friend's house for project meeting. While walking under the voideck, one of my friends commented, "I don't understand you. You are always wearing the wrong shoe. Like now, its green top and blue shoe. You don't know nothing about matching". And she went on to ask my other friend; who just shrug her off.

Well, I am known among them to wear lots of colours all at once.
Imagine yellow top, green skirt and purple flip-flops. I wore that once, well I kind of cheated. The skirt had prints of yellow and purple, while the flip-flops had stripes of yellow.
Once I was called "traffic light". But I never did change.

At present, I have not been my colourful self. My U2 and Giordano coloured lycra tops are taking a break. Once in awhile I do wear them and I would feel like Barney, Baby Bob and BJ all over again. Needless to say, when I am drowned with colours, I jump into my bubbly and kiddish self.

And by the way, it wasn't just a blue shoe. It was Carlo Rino. Hah.

Since I'm staying at home today, I raid my closet to find the perfect pair of skirts to go with the satin cream coloured blouse I got yesterday. Here's my top three.
Leave me your comments on which look you like best.

Chinatown Market

We went up and down the slopes as a shorcut route.
Among the shophouses, we discovered a Puma boutique.
They had apparels, footwears and bags; that aren't sold in your Royal Sporting House. I had my eyes on a pair of Alexander Mcqueen. And yes. We are definitely going back there to purchase those $400 shoes. A little splurge sometimes to pamper yourself. Anyway, we went to a different flea market today. Ah. The thrill of bargains. I am absolutely pleased with my purchases.

Flea Market

Had I been a pro at flea markets, I would have acquired more pieces.
I had my eyes on a brown leather backpack that had; "Saks Fifth Avenue, New York", embossed on the front. But I passed it off as the seller demand $15 for it. I was aversed to dig up the huge pile of clothes dumps but I was more willing to glance at those that are being hung neatly. My purchases for today cost $5 in total.

Umbrella

I walked around, hands itching to own something new.
All I got was this
umbrella.
I can't wait for tomorrow.

Thrift Shopping

There were piles and piles of stuffs here and there.
The thing about thrift shopping is; even though you have in mind a list of what-to-buys, you rarely get a chance to stick to it. I had wanted silk scarves, oxford heels and a bag. Did I get what I want? Partly.
Even so, I am utterfly pleased with my purchases today.
