What a great way to fly

Pierre Balmain

From acid wash jeans, to animal printed pants, to denim military jacket, to studded sandals; this fashion house has been receiving much hype and raves from bloggers, far and wide. Glamorous, combined with tinge of pseudo punk, it’s no wonder why these designer pieces are coveted by fashion addicts worldwide.

While you may be familiar with his collections, and perhaps even know of his autobiography, I reckon you might not be aware of the relation between this French haute couture designer, and one of Singapore’s most reputable icon.

In 1972,
Pierre Alexandre Claudius Balmain created history for Singapore’s aviation industry. Better known as Pierre Balmain, this French designer not only coined the term Singapore Girl, but he was also the man behind the prominent Sarong Kebaya worn by flight stewardess of Singapore Airlines (SIA). Apart from creating SIA’s cabin crew uniform, Pierre Balmain was also responsible for designing the cabin crew’s safety shoes.
