Awesomeness

Lalaliu presented me with this award and goodness... I sure didn't see that coming. Since it's an award, I shall give my thanks. Thank you to all who have given their encouraging comments. Your support is much appreciated. Though I am aware you have already been awarded, to Frasypoo and Lalaliu, much thanks for your support all this while. You two are my Rockin' Girl Bloggers!

Nu Rave and Vintage

I am sure many of us have seen Marykate Olsen donning the "Frankie Says Relax" t-shirt. Now, Flesh Imp has came up with something similar - "
Flesh Imp Says Relax". Now now. Why would they do that? In my opinion that's just tacky. Had they came up with their own lines, I might consider buying one. But then again, why buy when you can make one? Lalaliu shows you how and goodness... how I which I can steal that shirt of hers!

If I'm not wrong, January this year, Topshop launched the POP collection where words on shirts are printed in fluoro colours. It's been ages since I walked into Topshop so when I went in today, I saw the POP collection, "Punks Out, Rave In", "I Hate Nu Rave", the list goes on. Not forgetting them coloured denims, fluoro suspenders and belts. Earlier on I went to Bugis Junction and Town and I managed to snap some pictures of the growing Nu Rave scene here. Heck, we even bump into a group of guys in red, lime green and neon blue jeans! Oh brother. On another note, I purchased a red wayfarers today. I was soo thrilled to have found it but that happy feeling soon turned to irritation, as I found the exact same pair later on during the day at $10 cheaper. Needless to say I cursed non-stop afterwards at the shop for charging me more. Better luck next time I guess.

I really like the t-shirt with those Transformers in neon shades.

Oppt Shop is a vintage store. In my opinion, majority of the items are overpriced. Didn't I mention before that vintage shopping here is really expensive?

FYI: The pictures' quality are due to the fact that I snap them straight off the handphone's screen. I will put up better pictures once my guy uploads them.

Silk blouse

Boy was I absolutely glad I wore this red skirt today instead of the white one. Had I went with the latter, I would have a red blotch contrasting against the white of the skirt. I know you know what I'm talking about so I'm not going to say it. Anyway, I have yet to wear this blouse tucked out. Maybe someday when I feel like wearing it loose.

We wore white

Another great day today. We walked around, talked until the cows went home, watched how day turned to night, and took lots of pictures. I'm reminded of the time when we were soo carefree, with plenty of time on our hands. When he said he was was wearing white today, I put on this white shirt. Hold it. We're actually not big on couples wearing the same coloured shirt, or worse, same design as well. Heck, we normally do not need to plan what to wear, for we always end up wearing the same colored shirt. Twin telepathy perhaps? Anyway, just today, I made and exception to be donned in white like him.

Batik skirt

After nearly two hours of deciding what to wear, I ended up with this. I just wish I hadn't change my mind and left my black socks behind. Had I wore them, I would have been all geared up for another downpour. But then again, the thick shawl did keep me warm throughout. (Pictures taken using camera phone)

Shoes of love

Years ago, plain white school girl's mary janes were really popular here. Many bought them and dyed the shoes according to their own preference. Needless to say, them shop owners caught up with the alarming increase in sales of the shoe which then lead to a rise of the price - by almost $2. My guy, instead of using dyes, used candle wax for the shoe. I wore it a lot and I like the responds people gave when I told them it's made from candle wax. I do still have the shoe but it has yet to be worn out.

Men's shirt

I've been rummaging my brother's closet for awhile now. I'm secretly stealing his many unused shirts and plain white tees. And today, the first time I wore out his shirt, I got busted. He looked at me, touch the shirt and said, "Isn't this mine?" That followed by a smirk, laughter and a comment, "It's too big for you". Oh well... the looser, the better brother.

Bag lady

Scenario: Getting ready for morning class.
Me: The weather is soo chilly. It keeps raining every morning.
Mum: Why are you wearing sleeveless then?
Me: But I have on a long skirt and your shawl.
Mum: And sandal. Go wear a shoe. Your feet will freeze.
Me: Nah...
Lesson learnt: Mothers are always right.

A let down

I went to Fash Bash today and I wasn't impress. The sign guiding us to the place was misleading. We went around and around the building, searching for the place. To make matters worse, we were partially drenched by the heavy rain. Anyway, I didn't expect the place to be exceptionally small and cluttered. Never mind that they had some pretty nice vintage clothings, their prices were extremely pricey though. $179 for a 70's vintage dress. What?! I would rather buy one online on Ebay. Anyway, I had my eyes on this shiny pair of white and black jazz shoe. Even though I can afford it, I thought it's really ridiculous to fork out $210. Then there was the Anya Hindmarch "I'm not a plastic bag" bag. I heard the salesperson mentioning to this group of girls that each costs $49 after being discounted by 10%. The girls passed it off and I was soo glad they did. Pretending I didn't hear what she told the girls, I asked for the price. $49. They came in two colours; blue and grey. Again, pretending as if I didn't know which is which, I asked which one was UK version and which was US version. She said both were UK version. I cringed. Literally. But at least she was honest enough to tell me those two bags aren't authentic. Lucky me, I nearly spent $49 on a knock off. In case you were wondering, no, I didn't purchase a thing at all. I'm sticking to thrifting.

Fash Bash

In case you forget, here's what's happening this weekends.
A little warning though; Just be prepared to say goodbye to your dollars (and cents). I'll see you there.

City Square

Finally, we went on our shopping trip. I enjoyed the company of the people I went there with. Though they were much older than I am, I felt relatively comfortable. Anyway, there are two things that annoyed me. Firstly, shops that didn't have price tags on their merchadise. Secondly, I blame myself for not having enough time for shopping. I was around two hours late.

There were other things that I bought, but I managed to shoot these only.

I thrifted this black, lacey mustard heels weeks ago. I can't wait to wear it out but I never get around washing it. Someday soon I hope.

Seven, not my preferred number

1. I have a passion for children. I was an early childhood
educator. Currently, I still teach, but in a different
setting.

2. I get frustrated sometimes when I have to repeat over
and over again to my friends, who Audrey Hepburn is.
Apparently, they have only heard of Marilyn Monroe.

3. I used to be a tomboy for when I was younger, I would
tag alongside my brother and played soccer with him
and his friends. Gradually as I got older, I came to like
playing dress up. Naturally, my mum was rather amazed
when I started wearing dresses and long skirts.

4. I seldom patronise stores such as Topshop, Zara, Mango,
the list goes on and on, as I loathe it when I bump into
someone who have on something that I'm wearing. I would
rather dress funny than be dressed like everyone else.

5. I have a habit of wearing the things I like
(at that point of time) over and over again. If I ike a
particular sandal, I will wear them until it's time to get a
new pair.

6. I enjoy observing people on the streets. I will look at how
they converse, their body language and of course, what
they are wearing. Sometimes when I like how that
particular shirt/pants/accessories is being worn, I will try
something like it at home. But then again, what looks nice
on others might not be too good on me.

7. I have a huge collection of buttons. Each time I visit
Spotlight, I will always end up buying them in different
shape, colours, etc. It's good to know that something
as cheap and simple as buttons can be used in many ways.
I make button earrings and I sew them on shoes, shirts,
any things that look plain and need some colour and
character.

And since I'm not a fan of the number seven, I'll give fact number
eight as well.

8. Sometimes I wonder why I buy polo tees. So far, polo tees
and me just doesn't tally. Oh well. Blame it on impulse.

I would tag others but seeing that those whom I know are
already tagged, I have none left.

Butterfly

When I'm late and hardly have time to doll up, dresses become my safest bet. An example would be today where I hurriedly put on my brown wool dress and grabbed whatever accessories that might match it. I clinched the belt around the dress and I brought along my late grandmother's selimpang as well. Just in case. I thought.

Class ended early today so my guy and I headed to town. That's when I ditched the belt for the selimpang. To make the selimpang's length shorter than that of the dress, I had to twist it numerous times around the centre.

I guess that tiny brooch could not handle that much twisting as it dropped off while I was walking. That had me back at square one; as now I would have to twist and turn the selimpang again. I didn't want to wait until I get to the toilet so I adjusted my selimpang there and then, in the middle of the busy street of Orchard. My guy, seeing that I was struggling, offered to help. After some "wrapping", I love how it turned out! According to him, I look like a butterfly :D

Tagged

I've been tagged by Lalaliu but unfortunately I can't do it now. Suddenly, there's thunder and lightning flashing outside my window and it's really blinding my eyes! My PC is against my bedroom window so everytime I see a lightning, I flinch. It's 11.23pm now. Earlier today, the weather was lovely though. Ok laters!

Silk scarf

I think all of us know how essential our mother's wardrobe is. So today I ransacked my mum's drawers, not having in mind what I'm actually searching for. Then I came across drawers of silk scarves and so the excitement began. My mum wasn't too pleased at the aftermath; for I messed up her entire drawers of neatly folded scarves. I twist and pinned the scarf around my plain white tee and now I got a tube top. Yeah!

Why does it seem that when I'm tight on cash, I have a whole list of what-to-buy, and almost everything catches my eyes. But when I have dollars to spare, nearly everything seems soo repulsive and not to my liking.

Thank God it's Friday

So how have you been? Great I hope. Weekends is finally here and am I glad for it. It's been ages since I last shop so I guess this weekend I will do just that! I miss the excitement of going thrifting! To add, I haven't been reading the many fashion blogs that I adore; so, I plan on burning some midnight oils doing just that. Yeah! But then again, most important of all, I need to get me some nice, undisturbed sleep.

I am Singapore

To all Singaporean, wherever you are, Happy National Day!!
Show your loyalty to your country by wearing red and white today. And of course, be sure to catch the live telecast of the National Day Parade. Did I mention that the parade is going to be held at Marina Bay, on the world's largest floating platform? :D We are Singapore, Singaporean!

Uniquely Singapore

I did not trip, neither did I win. But I am certainly pleased with myself for not backing out but instead, lived up to the challenge. A big thank you to my group for their support, even though I was probably the worst model up there on stage. So I guess this is my first step towards conquering my stage fright. Did I do well? I would like to think so. Yes I did.

Ashley Isham

Living in a multi-racial country, I was raised since young to accept the cultural diversity and in no way discriminate others who are different. While I'm taught about how Singaporeans need to be united, regardless of race, language or religion, I do believe in individual ethnic identity. As for myself, each time I hear/read/see a fellow Malay contributing their part to our country, I will get a tuck at my heart, followed by a feeling of gratification.

Eshamuddin Ismail, or Ashley Isham as he is known now, was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He got his big break during London fashion Week where he showcased his Autumn/Winter 2003 collection. To be where he is today wasn't easy. His parents were divorced, so he took it upon himself; the role of supporting his family and stimultaneously, building his passion for fashion. Now, Ashley has a boutique, Aquaint, which is located in London.

A couple months ago, the local Malay entertainment magazine, Manja, had a feature on him. Now if I can just remember where the magazine is, then can I show you his heavenly home and his views about life and fashion. He is an inspiration to me in many ways and my mum credited his success to his devotion towards his mother and sister (apart from his determintaion and hardwork). My mum believes that a dutiful son or daughter will get blessings from GOD. I believe so to. Anyway, here are some creations I love from his Autumn/Winter 2007 collection.

This gold dress is stunningly gorgeous. The upper cutting reminds me of a Chinese Cheongsam while the fabric reminds me of a Malay bridal Kebaya, and the bottom puffiness of the dress looks to be Indian Bollywood inspired.

Mum's dress

So nowdays school just about takes every bit of my energy, focus and time. I wouldn't go on about it. Else, you might just find yourself reading a 1000 words essay. As for now, to sum it briefly, I am making an effort to adjust and adapt. Anyhow, the first time I wore this dress below, I wasn't certain about the flower prints overload and so I threw a yellow sweater over it. In July when I wore this dress, I thought "sweaters be damned", this dress is beautiful just as it is. Again today, I ditched the sweater and I guess I'm right to not cover it up because my lecturer complemented on how lovely it was.

Dress: Hand-me-downs/ Vintage (My mum's)
Bag: Malaysia
Shoes: Charles & Keith
Belt: Flea Market
Necklace: Avon
Bangles: (Not seen in picture) Aries (I tucked the sleeves into the bangles to make it half sleeved instead of full sleeve as it is)

The front and back of the dress had pleats that I adore so much.

Baju Kurong

Don in my Malay traditional costume, the Baju Kurong, I went to my guy's brother solemnization. I shall give myself a pat for not succumbing to my temptation which is to wear my favourite Malay costume - the Baju Kebaya. As much as the Baju Kurong dwarfed the height out of me, I love how comfortable and unconstrained it made me feel. And what's not to love, the Baju Kurong is gold in colour. Accessorized with only a strand of pearls, it's just simplicity at the very best.

The hantaran (dowry).

Us whackos crashed the bride and groom during their photoshoot. I love the Bollywood costumes this newly weds had on. Oh, the bride's costume was flowy like a princess, with gold embroidery at the seams. Seriously she looked like a doll and I can't help but laugh when she complain her head felt heavy from the veil and the gordilocks extension she had on. Ahaha.

One month old

Today, my blog has been officially running for a month! As this is a first for me, it sure is an achievement. Hip hip hooray! I treated myself to a trip at one of my favourite malls, and let's just say today wasn't my "good buys" days. I ended up with only three items but I adore them to bits! I needed a new ballerina flats as my much loved patent died on me. I gave up looking until I found this stall and being the ever curious me, I went to check it out and bingo! I got myself this leopard flats which, looks oddly familiar. Then I remember seeing it on someone's feet. It was from
Target!

Anyway, I have a story. Totally unrelated to fashion but I feel like sharing so read on! Earlier today we headed to our favourite Noodle stall over at Haig Road since we havn't been there for ages. Only when we were a few steps away from the stall did we remember that the stall is closed for every Wednesday! Anyhow, we had our lunch at a different stall and as my Laksa wasn't tasty, I didn't finish it. Then, along came a man who mumbled something that I completely did not understand. Originally we thought he wanted to clear the table, but just as I lifted my butt off the stool, he hurriedly sat down on it and began savouring my leftovers! I didn't notice it at first until my guy nudged me and the lady on the next table shriek! I was disgusted to put it mildly for he was in his 20s, able-bodied and probably could get a job had he tried. Oh well. The only thing that got to me was the fact that he ate my last slice of tasty Popiah which I had completely forgotten all about.
